Annual walk-a-thon raises $110K for SCARC
FRANKFORD — Chris Hemmer, director of development for SCARC, said between 500 and
550 people participated in the Gordon Shelton Memorial Walk-a-Thon this year on a 1.6-mile course
around the Sussex County Fairgrounds in Augusta.
"The weather wasn't a deterrent, really," he said of the cloudy skies with a threat of rain on
Sunday afternoon. The walk-a-thon raised about $110,000 and is one of the biggest fundraising events
of the year for the service organization.
The walk is named for Gordon Shelton, a former board member, who died in 2010.
