Rutgers offers scholarship to freshman QB Sonny Abramson
April 2, 2013
Talented freshman signal-caller Sonny Abramson from Pope John XXIII (Sparta, N.J.)
has his first scholarship offer, courtesy of the Scarlet Knights.
The 6-foot-2, 190-pound ninth grader threw for 2,137 yards and 20 touchdowns last fall,
earning MaxPreps Freshman All-American honors.
The likes of Michigan, Stanford, Notre Dame and Boston College have also shown interest in Abramson,
though Rutgers is his first offer.
Interestingly, Abramson is the second quarterback from the Class of 2016 that Rutgers has offered.
The Scarlet Knights issued an unofficial scholarship offer to Bergen Catholic (Oradell, N.J.)
freshman Jarrett Guarantano before he had played a single down of high school football.
Guarantano will compete to earn the starting job this fall. At his current pace,
Abramson could set the state's all-time passing record by the time he's a senior.
